Welcome to Culture Dump
For the past three years I have been a full-time magazine editor at Futures Magazine. I write feature stories, news and profiles, shoot photos, edit our Web site, newsletters, post blogs and handle whatever else may present itself. I also recruit, develop and retain contributors to our book and software review sections, proof read and correct every story that we publish. The magazine has been covering the futures, options and equities markets for 36 years. We are a trusted source of information for people who use it to make and manage money. Our stories cover macro economics, legal and technology issues that affect traders, investment banks, hedge funds, retail and institutional traders.
My side projects include promotions for a rock band and its production company, creating and managing a Web site and Web log for a Long-Term Care Insurance company and I think I began writing a novel about eight weeks ago. I also lecture at the Medill School of Journalism once per quarter on how to land a job in the media, develop a beat and how to create and use information graphics.
Specialties
My primary talent is taking difficult information and communicating it in a clear and concise way. I am handy with digital equipment, including computers, recorders, cameras, contact databases and have great problem-solving abilities.
I founded Culture Dump in December 2002 as an e-mail newsletter in which subscribers debated the morality and legality of Gulf War II. It grew into a Web site featuring news stories and photographs that I created as part of my application to the Medill School of Journalism and currently features an active and contentious group blog: Culture Dump Communications.
